And this guy came up. He builds custom home theater systems. And holy shit. Starting price for one of his theaters comes in at $500,000 and goes into the multi-millions pretty easily. But shit, you've got this in your house.

It's so awesome, but I can't help but think that for watching something like sport scores, would you really go through the trouble of starting everything up?

Amazing how little those kind of numbers mean to some people. If you've ever got fifteen minutes go look up the most expensive houses for sale in the US and keep a bucket handy because some of them will make you want to puke. This one below wasn't just listed at $130 million, someone actually bought it for that much.

Kinja'd!!!

Then there's this one in Beverly Hills for almost $200 million. I don't even know how you get that much money to begin with, much less decide to spend it on a single house.

Kinja'd!!!

Can't imagine how much this theater setup cost:

How horrible a person does it make me for kinda want a massive, absurdly expensive home like that?

I don't get it. It would make sense if you would have a 20 bedroom house or something and really enjoy treating your guests to a movie night. But just for yourself? I'd rather have a nice 4k telly with some trick sound system in the livingroom.

lets play what if. What you invented a fusion reactor and license it to the world. You have donated to every charity you find worthy and you still have a few billion rattling around in your pocket. What does your house have?

Mine:

A theater because I love films

A fully equipped garage of ample space

A nice kitchen for entertaining

And a great view

Not terrible at all, I think there's a part of everyone who'd love to live in a place like those. Only thing is I could never imagine actually like 'living' in them, y'know, like having to clean dog hair out of the couch in the living room or wash dishes in those kitchens or whatever. They just seem too nice.

It's the for the same reason people buy Bugatti Veyrons, so you can brag about how much money you spent.

You got it all down, only thing I'd add would be a huge amount of acreage where I can build my own personal racetrack and not have any neighbors close enough to complain about the noise.

One doesn't simply use that to check sports scores. It's for hosting and entertaining—be it a film or a big sports game. That's how I see it.

That's why you have a large staff to help you keep the place up.

And yeah, even if I had hundred of millions to spend on a home well into 5 digits of square feet and with absurd amenities, I'd still go for a more home-y feel with the decor and furnishings.

This is awesome. (Although a bit big even for me).

And this is beyond awful.

If your house has something like this, I imagine the rest of it would be pretty amazing for entertaining!

Probably, even though the Veyron seems sensible compared to a million dollar home cinema.

See, I'd get something like this . Huge amount of privacy, upscale but not too nice, big enough to be comfortable but not huge enough for empty space. That being said, if I wanted a bigger house, like you, I'd live here and have a bunch of people over all the time. I really dig the architecture of that place, I could live with having it mostly empty.

That first one is perfection. I like the architecture of the second one, but the interior is too ornate for my taste. I'd feel like I was living in a museum.

I actually really like the second one's interior. It seems super-cozy, kinda reminds me of my lakehouse, but you are right, some rooms are a bit gaudy. Then again, compared to other places...

The exterior on that "other places" looks like something out of a movie. I guarantee it has been in a film at some point.

The interior also looks like something out of a movie. A horror movie.

I agree, it doesn't even look like a place a real person would live in. Like the owner was a villain from a 1930's movie who was like, give me the most obnoxiously, disgustingly ostentatious interior possible. Amazingly, someone actually bought that place too...

Bill Maher has one. Phil Rosenberg (Everybody Loves Raymond) has one. I'd rather just have a well-appointed, discrete, and small house out of the way, with a 5 car garage and a lift.

I've been in a house with a theater system like this. It was all computer controlled, and programmed by the homeowner himself. The theater was right next to the wine cellar full of casks of wine and the cigar lounge. In the garage two 911 Turbo Cabriolets and a Cayenne Turbo. Any Porsche people will undoubtedly have heard of him, Ranson Webster. Very cool guy and totally down to earth to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
